Weather Alert: Winter Storm in Effect

UPDATED: The Shasta area is currently receiving heavy snowfall. In McCloud and Mt. Shasta City, only a couple inches have accumulated as of noon, but it’s building quickly. Also, the power is currently out in McCloud: Pacific Power crews are trying to find the cause.

Chains are required for driving on I-5 and Hwy 89.

A large winter storm is impacting the area and is expected to last through Monday night. Elevations above 4,000 feet could receive up to 18 inches of snow. The Mt. Shasta Ski Park is expected to receive a large quantity of snow.

As of Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm, elevations below 4,000 feet (including Mt. Shasta City and the I-5 corridor) are receiving steady rain. Elevations above 4,000 feet (including the top of Snowman Summit on Hwy 89 and the Mt. Shasta Ski Park) are receiving heavy snowfall.

If you’re traveling through the region, please be prepared. Freezing levels are expected to drop Sunday night.
